Payments
Mobile payment is the default almost everywhere. Set this up before you arrive.
- AlipayLinks most foreign cards; has an English mode and a "Tour Pass" option.
- WeChat PayBuilt into WeChat; useful once you can top up or link a card.
Communication
One app covers messaging, mini-programs, and many daily services.
- WeChatMessaging plus mini-programs for tickets, bookings, and official accounts.
Getting around
Ride-hailing and maps that work reliably with English input.
- Amap / Baidu MapsLocal navigation and transit; more accurate than foreign map apps.
- DiDiRide-hailing with an English interface inside Alipay or its own app.
- Metro appsCity metro QR codes, often available inside Alipay.
Language
Offline-capable translation helps with signs, menus, and forms.
